Meet Nicole Martin
Growing up, I lived an active lifestyle and spent a large amount of time training as a figure skater. For years, I basically lived out of an ice rink. As a result, most of what I ate came out of a vending machine.
But, with being young and super active, weight was never an issue. I could eat whatever I wanted, with no negative consequences.
Or, at least that’s what I thought.
Once I began the pre-med program at Eastern Michigan University, I started spending more time studying and far less time being active. Soon enough, all that crap I’d been eating for my entire life caught up with me.
I got shingles. Then I got mono. Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with both colitis and diverticulitis. It was bad enough that after visits to the emergency room, I decided that I had two options: continued misery resulting in countless procedures and invasive surgery, or a massive change in how I was eating.
Needless to say, I chose to take responsibility for the future of my health. I did a ton of research and what I found changed my life. I realized that food isn’t just stuff we eat because we’re hungry, or because we need the calories in the same way that car needs gas to keep going.
No, FOOD IS MEDICINE. Food is what allows our body to HEAL ITSELF.
This realization changed my life. I started eating healthier, and eventually transitioned to a wholly plant-based diet. The results have been amazing, and even years later I still find that I feel better with each passing day.
But what I found to be truly revolutionary about this change is how sharing that information and helping others has become my passion.
I worked as an EMT and in emergency rooms and what I saw there were sick people. And not just the patients! The doctors, nurses, staff… it was literally sick people treating sick people.
I realized then that so many people could benefit from what I had to learn the hard way!
When I found Dr. Dangovian and The Wellness Institute, I found my calling. As an integrative health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine with a specialization in corrective exercise and performance enhancement, it’s been wonderful to work with so many people who have taken control of their futures through the Wellness Program. I’ve seen so many lives changed, and I am passionate about continuing to help more people understand that sick, broken and tired should not be the status quo!
I hope you’ll take that next step! I’d love to talk to you to see if our program is the right fit for you! Come join us at our next free Wellness Dinner!
